Safety Pin 2015 – was this a vision for today?

Safety Pin 2015 – was this a vision for today?

I saw something like this coming. One of my dear friends, Sarah Le Vallois from narrow boat 'Pride of Nuffield' told me she had just listened to the album I released in 2015 (just search Sanity Bypass on your preferred music streaming service) and told me the words of the title track, 'Safety Pin' are so poignant for what's happening today during these strange and worrying times. The spooky thing is we were listening to Apple Music this evening and I just ask Siri to play some random stuff on...

Marina Photoshoot – getting the drone out

Marina Photoshoot – getting the drone out

I don't need too much of an excuse to get the drone up into the air but Gayton Marina came across some of my photos on social media and got in touch to ask if I could do some aerial shots of the marina. Of course I was happy to do so as it's our home mooring. For those wondering yes, I am a professional photographer (and graphic designer) and have liabilty insurance up to £5m as well as being licensed for both leisure and commercial (CAA) use. I state this because I am aware that their a lot...

Enough is enough, this is now verging on tyranny

Enough is enough, this is now verging on tyranny

I don't usually get political on this blog or indeed on any boating or alternative lifestyle forums including groups on facebook etc but I am now beginning to get quite annoyed with people that are going along with everything they hear on the mainstream media. This post is aimed at providing the facts about the current Covid-19 situation as well as some examples of what REAL people are saying and feeling about it. Just as an example of something you most certainly never heard on the BBC et al...

You Can Do This – a new mini series on The Vlog Couple

You Can Do This – a new mini series on The Vlog Couple

In the past on social media many people have asked how we did a certain thing, from enhancing a photo to adding special effects and titles or simply asking what camera gear we use when making our blogs and vlogs. Of course a lot of what we have learnt is taken from what Paul does for a living but also by following lots of stuff on YouTube. However, a lot of the stuff on there is way too complex and seems to waffle on with too much detail so we thought we would try and simplyfy things. Straight...

Reality strikes as lockdown drags on and on

Reality strikes as lockdown drags on and on

As I write this we are in week 12 of lockdown, thats three months since I have had an income. That's 3 months that Lee's hair salon has been closed with no sight of returning to normality. Some have been 'lucky' to be on furlough but being self emplyed myself with a business that has not got 3 years of signed-off accounts I am not one of those. I have received not a single penny from the government. In the past 3 months I have earnt around £280. As I write this Lee is over at her hair salon...

Ditch Dwellers Diary Series 1 Episode 3

Welcome to another few days in the life of us, Paul, Lee & Hector the dog, on our floating home. Paul decided that I should be more involved with the Blogs and Vlogs, and I was keen to do so. He then shocked me by saying that Vlog number three would be filmed and edited by me too. I started when I went off on my weekly escape from the marina to the launderette and supermarket. Isn't it funny how we kind of look forward to these simple pleasures. I normally do my washing in the comfort of...

Making the best of it over VE Day bank holiday

Making the best of it over VE Day bank holiday

As the lockdown continues we count ourselves very lucky to be stuck at the marina and, as described in an earlier post we have been keeping ourselves busy with various challenges between us motley crew on our narrow boats. However, this bank holiday weekend is a very special one celebrating the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe and I think its such a huge shame that all of the wonderful events planned to honour our servicemen and women were unable to go ahead. Of course the good old...

Getting Snappy at the Marina in Lockdown

Getting Snappy at the Marina in Lockdown

It’s strange old times here at the marina as there are close to 40 of us locked up here during the Chy-na virus pandemic. It seemed a good idea to start a WhatsApp thingy for keeping everyone at the marina in contact with each other in case of emergencies or such. Thing is, like most of social media at the moment it soon became a platform for people to moan and act as the self appointed police, whinging about people on the towpath opposite and basically making everyone a bit over suspicious...

Ditch Dwellers Diary Series 1 Episode 1

Well here it is, our very first post on this website and it's a video! We have been running a YouTube channel about our boat for a while now but wanted a new place to hang out where we can talk about other stuff and not be restricted to a single subject hence the creation of a new channel and a new website with all the social media accounts that brings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNQLFeizNMU&t=67s In this brand new light hearted YouTube series episode 1 has Paul dying Lee's hair due...
